Make Your Car Last Practically a Lifetime!

RSS

A car that lasts 200,000 miles may have seemed like a pipe dream years ago, but modern vehicles are more reliable than ever! You just need a little know-how to keep up with the maintenance.

Every 5,000 Miles: Change your oil! 5,000 miles is the recommended time between oil changes, but if you use synthetic oil, you may be able to go 10,000 miles between your oil changes. And don’t forget the fresh oil filter!

Every 10,000 Miles: Get your tires rotated! This helps them wear down slower and more evenly. And you know what that means … you won’t have to buy new tires as often!

Every 15,000 Miles: Replace your air filter! The air filter protects your engine from getting clogged with dust and dirt. If you don’t change your air filter enough, it won’t protect your engine properly! Check your owner’s manual to see how often they recommend changing yours.

Every 30,000 Miles: Inspect your brake pads! Every time you hit the brakes, the pads wear down a little and become less effective over time. The lifespan of your brake pads depends on your driving habits and the material the pads are made of. Get them checked out every 30,000 miles to make sure they don’t need replacing!

Every 50,000 Miles: Flush it! That’s right. At 50,000 miles get a mechanic to flush the transmission fluid. You should also have them check your battery, spark plugs, and ignition wires to see if any of them need to be replaced.

There’s an entire chapter dedicated to cars in Keep Your Cash, Save Your Social Security, and Live Worry-Free! You won’t believe the secrets you’ll discover …
