Slash Your Heating Bill and Extend Furnace Life with These 2 Simple Tips!

RSS

Save up to $60 a year on heating bills, avoid furnace repairs, extend the life of your heating system, and even reduce the amount of dangerous toxins in your home. You can do it if you just remember to do these two things.

  • Change the filter regularly. Check the air filters on your furnace and return vents every month, and change each filter that either looks dirty or hasn’t been changed in the last three months. It takes more electricity or natural gas to push air through dirt-laden filters than clean ones. Dirty filters may also lead to more repairs and may force you to replace your furnace earlier. Worst of all, mold and mildew can grow on dirty filters and release toxic chemicals into the air. Clear the air, prevent repairs, and preserve your heater by changing those filters regularly.
  • Schedule regular maintenance checks. Even fairly new furnaces can corrode and leak dangerous gases like carbon monoxide. To help prevent that, arrange for maintenance visits every six months. Routine maintenance helps your furnace run more efficiently and survive longer, so you keep more money in your pocket.
