Boost Immunity During Cold Season!

RSS

We have a great recipe to help fend off colds this fall and winter! Just throw a cup of frozen peaches, a cup of frozen strawberries, a banana, and some fat-free milk into a blender! This delicious smoothie is packed with more than 300 milligrams (mg) of vitamin C! According to research, this is a fabulous first step toward avoiding the common cold.

A study of more than 1,500 Swedish people found that women who took in more than 200 mg of vitamin C every day were less likely to get upper respiratory infections compared to those who got less than 100 mg a day. Men got less vitamin C from foods than women and were more likely to benefit from taking vitamin C and vitamin E supplements.

To add more vitamin C to your diet, try these common foods that are absolutely loaded with it:

  • Frozen Peaches, sliced and sweetened
  • Raw, Sweet Red Peppers
  • Cranberry Juice Cocktail
  • Boiled Broccoli
  • Unsweetened Orange Juice from Concentrate
  • Raw Pineapple
  • Raw Orange

More vitamin C is a great start to protecting yourself this upcoming cold and flu season, but there are even more tips you need to know to boost your immune system! Thankfully, there’s an entire chapter dedicated to colds and flu starting on page 53 of The Country Doctor Handbook 2. Get your copy today!
